September 11, 2001 needs no introduction. As the world watched, the twin towers fell into a jumbled heap. The smoke hadn't even cleared (and still with thousands toiling away removing the debris) when people began calling for a memorial of some sort to remember the victims of the tragedy.
This event hit us at Zaretsky and Associates particularly hard because of our connection with the City. Bruce grew up strolling the streets of Manhattan and we have many family and friends still there. Bruce and Sharon will find any excuse to be in New York because it is still the greatest city in the world.
We felt that any memorial honoring the victims should be designed and built from the heart. And we also felt that this competition would attract designs from folks who didn't feel it like we did. So we decided that Zaretsky and Associates would enter the competition. Bruce and Sharon spent countless hours designing and re-designing and with tremendous help from our friend and local architect Ted Butcher. We designed a memorial that we are proud of and that we feel honors the victims and the survivors of 9/11.
Enough said. See for yourself what still brings a lump to our throats. And drop us a line to let us know what you think.
